Celebrities comment on Oprah leaving daytime television

After Oprah’s big announcement to leave daytime television after 25 seasons, some of her close friends and celebrities commented on The Oprah Winfrey Show’s September 2011 split from TV.

Her bestie Gayle King said:

“I think that Oprah always makes the best decision for herself. I really do. And I have a feeling she will come up with some things to do. She has a very full life…We don’t need to worry about her filling her time, I promise you that! Life is good for her.”

Ellen DeGeneres commented:

“Hey listen, I’m going to tell you some news you’re going to hear as soon as you go out into the world, when you leave here. Right before I came out here, I got a call from Oprah and she told me that she is announcing that next year will be her last year. It will be her 25th year, and she feels like it’s time for her to stop…I don’t think I could be here without her. I think she has blazed a trail…She is an amazing woman…She will always be the Queen of Daytime Television.”

And finally Martha Stewart noted:

“She’ll do another show. She’s evolving. She’s fabulous.”

Yeah, I think she is definitely going to have another show…this time on her OWN network, but what will it be??

Ellen DeGeneres on Oprah magazine cover, talks about Portia Rossi

Comedian and newest American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres is on the cover of O, Oprah magazine, for the December 2009 issue and she talks about the love of her life, her wife, Portia Rossi.

“She is so beautiful and so smart and so funny. I have that sense of ‘I’m done now.’ I’m settled. I know that part of my life is taken care of. I’ve got love. I’ve got someone who will be with me till the day I die.”

Portia and Ellen got married on August 16, 2008 at their home, and the courts are legally upholding their union since it occurred before the November 2008 approval of Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.

I LOVE Portia and Ellen…they are just smitten over each other, I LOVE it!!

Oh, and Ellen should feel honored to be on the cover of O. On her website, Oprah is quoted, “Ellen DeGeneres is a woman who can make things happen. When she decided she wanted to be on the cover of O, she pulled out all the stops (just look at her creative concepts here). It worked—for only the second time in O history, this December, I’m sharing the cover with a woman I adore.”

Yay for Ellen!!  Check out the four cover options of Ellen and Oprah for O mag in the full post, courtesy of Oprah.com.

Ellen DeGeneres addresses American Idol critics

Lots of buzz has been stirring that comedian and television show host Ellen DeGeneres is not qualified to replace Paula Abdul as the newest judge on American Idol.

We think she’s more than qualified!!

So in true Ellen fashion, she addresses her AI critics on her show on Tuesday, saying:

“Apparently, there’s a lot of debate going on right now whether I’m qualified or not to be the new judge on American Idol…I know there is a lot chatter. I’ll tell you right now, how I know I’m going to be a great judge … I’ve spent my whole life being judged. So I know what it’s like…So I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean. But the things that people are saying…I thought America had moved past this. First, we have the first African American President. We’ve sworn in our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I think American Idol is ready for their first blonde judge … I do.”

Good for her!  We’re excited to watch Ellen as the 4th judge on American Idol.  She is going to add light-hearted humor as well as her honest and sweet opinion.  It’s going to be a great addition to their current team of Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and host Ryan Seacrest.

Besides, if you were offered the job, wouldn’t you take it?!!  We would!!

Kara DioGuardi excited for Ellen to judge on American Idol

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is excited for TV host Ellen DeGeneres to join her, Simon, and Randy as the 4th judge on American Idol saying:

“I think it’s a genius decision. I wish I had thought of it. I know a little bit about Ellen from watching her show and I would says she would probably be somebody who would be fair in her criticism and will try to be as supportive as she possibly could. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. [Ellen will get along with everyone] 100 percent. I was on her show once and she’s lovely, generous, very kind. I think it’s going to be great.”

We are excited for Ellen to be on AI too!!  Was Kara sending a jab in Paula’s direction though, saying how she will get along with everyone ‘100 percent,’ compared to Paula’s issues?  Hmm…we could read a lot into her statement, but instead let’s just take it at face value.  We’re all excited for Ellen on American Idol!!

Kelly Osbourne afraid of disappointing mom, Sharon, with drugs

Dancing With The Stars contestant Kelly Osbourne told Ellen DeGeneres that she was afraid of disappointing her mom, Sharon Osbourne, by discussing her drug addiction with her.

The 24-year-old reality TV star and musician said, “”My mum had been in a relationship with my father for years and years trying to get him sober. I was completely ashamed that I would have to go to her and now tell her that her daughter has issues as well.”

When Kelly actually told her parents about her demons, she said, “I felt like I let her down–but what I didn’t realize was that if I would have went to her a long time ago, she would have helped me no matter what.”

There’s nothing like a mother’s unconditional love, and Kelly witnessed that first hand. Like she said, Sharon was dealing with husband and rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s drug and alcohol addictions for years, she definitely knows how to handle the situation.

We’re just glad that Kelly’s clean and progressing towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show sued over copyright infringement

Ellen DeGeneres and her people don’t ‘roll that way’ when it comes to purchasing the copyright to thousands of songs played on her show.  The talk show host, and newest American Idol judge, is being sued for copyright infringement by some of the world’s biggest recording companies for playing more than 1,000 songs without permission.

The majority of the songs were played during The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s “dance over” segment where we sang and danced with the audience.  When representatives of the recording companies asked the defendants (Ellen’s people) why they didn’t obtain licenses for the music, they replied they didn’t “roll that way.”

Hahahahahaha!  That’s awesome!

The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Nashville says, “As sophisticated consumers of music, Defendants knew full well that, regardless of the way they rolled, under the Copyright Act, and under state law for the pre-1972 recordings, they needed a license to use the sound recordings lawfully.”

Scott Rowe, spokesman for the show, said they have been working with record labels for months to resolve the issue and will continue resolving it on “amicable and reasonable terms.”

Plaintiffs include Arista Music, Atlantic Recording Corp., Capitol Records, Motown Record Company, Sony Music Entertainment, Virgin Records America and Warner Bros. Records.

Ellen DeGeneres is not directly involved in the suit – whew!

Katherine Heigl to adopt Korean baby girl

Actress Katherine Heigl and her husband Josh Kelly are adopting a 10-month-old baby from Korea.  On the Ellen DeGeneres show yesterday, Katherine stated:

“It’s been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do…I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. So about a year ago is when we said, ‘OK, let’s start the process,’ and the process is intense. It’s different but it isn’t, do you know what I mean? It’s just as intense I’m sure to have a baby biologically because you’re going through the whole physical sort of thing of it.”

This was also the reason Katherine stopped smoking…whatever it takes, so good for her!  It makes me wonder why the couple doesn’t try for a biological child.  Regardless, it’s great to follow your desires and have a supportive husband.  As of right now, Kat and Josh have only seen the baby girl in photographs and have chosen the name Naleigh, a mix of her mother and sister’s names (Nancy & Leigh).

Congratulations Kat and Josh – we can’t wait to see your family all together!
