Singer Elton John and husband David Furnish plan to adopt a 14-month Ukrainian toddler named Lev. After visiting the orphanage Sir Elton said:
“David and I have always talked about adoption. David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said ‘no’ because I’m 62, and I think because of the travelling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn’t be fair for the child. But seeing Lev today, I would love to adopt him…he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David’s heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home.”
Elton John was in Ukraine to promote his work for Aids and performed ‘Circle of Life’ for 80 children who live at the orphanage. Olga Rudneva, one of the orphanage workers, said Elton didn’t mind if Lev was HIV positive or not.
Earlier this month, Elton John’s keyboard player, Guy Babylon, died of suspected heart attack. “It broke my heart because he was such a genius and so young and has two wonderful children. What better opportunity to replace someone I lost than to replace him with someone I can give a future to?” said Elton John.
Ah, the circle of life…if would be great for Elton and David to provide a home for any child in need. Lev would be one lucky kid.
