During the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, comedian Dane Cook joked on stage by calling Vanessa out in the audience saying, “Girl, you got to keep your clothes on. Phones are for phone calls, girl!”
At first Vanessa seemed excited to get the one-on-one attention from Cook, but after his comment, she was tight-lipped and embarrassed. Cook was later given an opportunity to apologize for his remarks and declined. He stated, “I planned it about 20 minutes before I went out there…my fans are very young as well, and everybody’s very opinionated. You gotta keep it classy. Mostly I just wanted it to be funny. That’s the best part about being a comic; when you go, maybe I can say the thing that everybody is kind of feeling and nobody [is saying]. The elephant in the room moment. So, I’ll take it, I’ll take the hit. It’s okay.” Nude and partially nude photos of tween star Vanessa Hudgens were leaked in September 2007 and resurfaced just before the Teen Choice Awards in August 2009.
