Candy Spelling is not a sweet mom!!

Candy Spelling, wife of the late media mogul Aaron Spelling and mother to Tori Spelling (aka 90210’s Donna Martin), has had a complicated relationship with Tori for years, to say the least.  Most recently, Candy has been fussy over her granddaughter’s first birthday party, where she was supposed to meet Stella for the first time.

Candy released an exclusive statement to TMZ stating, “I know many middle-aged people have issues about their parents and their upbringing. I did. My memories didn’t match all those of my mother, and, funny thing, it’s the same way with my daughter…I have a vested interest in this subject. My daughter, Tori’s, two-part season finale revolves around my granddaughter’s first birthday party and how she has made what seems like an agonizing decision to invite me…A big party wasn’t how I envisioned meeting my granddaughter for the first time; but, hey, this is Hollywood, and my grandchildren have become reality show props, too. At the time I emailed “yes,” I didn’t realize I was being set up for a two-parter, even though it was clear I was being invited to be part of a segment for my daughter’s reality show.  I decided my first meeting with my granddaughter should be on home video, not prime time cable; so I emailed that I would not be attending.  For all the reality show personalities, please remember that real life doesn’t get edited to make things better or worse or get better ratings. You’re responsible for what you do. Life isn’t just a show. And your families can’t just be props. Make your own season finale without creating conflicts you will regret later.”

The episode showed Tori and Co waiting for mom to show up, and she never does, leaving the family in tears.   Emailing a decline just before the party starts hardly counts.  And Candy wonders why there are communication (and other) issues in their relationship!?  And then props?  Really?  I hardly think Candy has room to speak on that one…riding on the coat tails of her husband’s success.  It’s too bad that she can’t be mature enough to drive to her daughter’s house, apologize for being a shitty mother and try to establish a loving relationship with her grandchildren.

In an interview with TMZ, she is asked if she wants to take back her statement about Tori using her children as props.  She said no. Sounds like Candy’s trying to ride this one out as long as the train stays in the station.  Let’s send her on her way, shall we?  There is plenty of other gossip we can sink our teeth into.

Tori, we love you and will always stand behind you; you’re the best!  Keep up the hard work! Whose side are you on?   Tori or Candy?
