Discovery Channel’s hugely successful TV show ‘Deadliest Catch’ is in mourning today after the passing of Captain Phil from the Cornelia Marie. Philip Harries suffered a massive stroke on January 29, 2010 where he was immediately flown to Anchorage but died after complications before going into surgery. He was only 53 years old.
Phil leaves behind his two sons, and fellow ship mates aboard the Cornelia Marie, Jake and Josh Harris. The two boys posted the following statement on the Discovery Channel website:
“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad – Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harris family at this time.
Phil Harris was somebody who lived a life that was quite different than most people on the planet. He will be missed by his family, friends, and the sea. RIP.
